Who's That Doing Handstands? |
Hi, I'm Claire! I'm a software developer, a former gymnastics instructor and personal trainer, an aspiring world traveler, a terrible runner, and a dark chocolate enthusiast.
It's hard to believe now that I used to think the only reason for working out was to look good. I struggled with anorexia and disordered eating for over 5 years. I was depressed, socially isolated, and constantly putting myself down thinking I wasn’t good enough. I was obsessed with control - controlling my diet and my appearance - and it completely took over my life. Recovery was a long process for me, but at some point I started strength training, and then I started adult gymnastics, and I learned to value my body for what it could DO instead of what it looked like. Instead of needing to control what I ate, I started to feel like I could achieve my goals and take back control of my LIFE. I learned two really important things from my recovery: if I'm afraid of something I should probably do it, and I should try to get stronger at something every day, to be always improving. I've made it my mission to push myself out of my comfort zone, be as strong as I can physically and mentally, learn new skills, and live life as the best version of myself. |
MY GOAL IS TO INSPIRE YOU TO BECOME STRONGER PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY THROUGH FITNESS, SOCIAL SUPPORT, AND A POSITIVE MINDSET. |
In 2016, I decided to share my story on this blog, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was looking for a way to give back, but also a creative outlet and a solid reason not to give up on my own goals. I write about my own health, fitness, and travel adventures, strategies I've found for hacking my happiness, great books I'm reading, plus some other random ponderings on mental health and tech.
If you're struggling with stress, low self-esteem, or more a serious mental health problem, I'm not a mental health expert. However, I sincerely hope you find something useful here, and THANK YOU for the opportunity to share what I know, and what I'm still learning right along side you!
